Welcome
to the OFFICIAL Gamma Kappa Kudos Club World Wide Web Page! We are the
very first Kudos Club in the Midwestern Region and the very first Kudos
Club in the entire nation to develop our very own OFFICIAL World Wide Web
Page!
The
Gamma Kappa Kudos Club is based in Saginaw, Michigan and was
chartered in October 1992 under the direction of the National Sorority
of Phi Delta Kappa, Incorporated, Gamma Kappa Chapter (also based in Saginaw,
Michigan). We are one of 23 Kudos Clubs located throughout eight states
(Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin)
which comprise the Midwestern Region, and at present, there are five regions
(Eastern, Far Western, Midwestern, Southeastern, and Southwestern) and
over 100 Kudos Clubs across the country. To access a list of all the chapters
comprising the Midwestern Region of the National Sorority of Phi Delta
Kappa, Incorporated, click
here.
The Kudos Club is one
of two youth groups under the direction of the National Sorority of Phi
Delta Kappa, Incorporated; the other group is the Xinos Club. The Kudos
Club is designed to contribute to the growth of young men (the Xinos Club
emphasizes the same contribution with young women) academically, spiritually,
civically, and socially. The general purpose of the Kudos Club (along with
membership qualifications and eligibility) can be accessed now by clicking
here.
All prospective candidates are invited to become members
because of their good character. To keep up the good character of the Kudos
Club, there are certain standards that must be met. These relate to manners,
cooperation, attendance, punctuality, appearance, and respect of themselves
and others.
This web page is devoted entirely to the Gamma Kappa Kudos
Club and serves three critical purposes: first, to enlighten every visitor
into the activities and community services we perform and provide not only
to benefit and enrich ourselves, but the Saginaw community and beyond;
second, to profile our brief (yet illustrious) history, yet holding mindful
(and prayerful) that we cannot allow past triumphs, previous failures,
and future successes to hinder what must presently be accomplished; and
third, to spotlight the dedicated and determined members, parents, and
advisors currently and previously involved the Gamma Kappa Kudos Club before
the world.
We hope you enjoy browsing through our OFFICIAL World Wide Web Page, and we invite you to feel free to visit our page again! If you have any comments or questions, please feel free to send us e-mail and we will respond to your inquiries and requests as soon as possible!

The National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Incorporated
was founded in New Jersey in 1923. There were originally eight women who
began the sorority: Julia Asbury Barnes, Ella Wells Butler, Margurite Gross,
Florence Steele Hunt, Ella McConnell, Gladys Cannon Nunery, Gladys Merritt
Ross, and Mildred Morris Williams. They are collectively known as The
Founders. The founders wanted to have teachers and other women involved
in the teaching profession to become better teachers and share in a feeling
of sisterhood. In working together, the members of their sorority could
become better in their profession, help their community, and experience
personal growth by learning and doing new things. Today, there are chapters
of the sorority throughout the United States - making it a national sorority.

The Gamma Kappa Kudos Club would like to leave you with these thoughts:
Watch your thoughts; they may become
words.
Watch your words; they may become
action.
Watch your actions; they may become
your character.
Watch your character; it may become
your destiny.

And these excerpts from Dr. Seuss (1990):
Oh, The Places You'll Go!
Congratulations! Today is your day.
You're off to Great Places! You're off and away!
You have brains in your head. You have feet in your in
your shoes.
You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.
You're on your own. And you know what you know.
And YOU are the the guys who'll decide where to go.
You'll look up and down streets. Look 'em over with care.
About some you will say, "I don't choose to go there."
With your head full of brains and your shoes full of
feet,
You're too smart to go down any not-so-good street.
And you may not find any you'll want to go down.
In this case, of course, you'll head straight out of
town.
It's opener there in the wide open air.
Out there things can happen and frequently do
To people as brainy and footsy as you.
And when things start to happen, don't worry. Don't stew.
Just go right along. You'll start happening too.
...And will you succeed?
Yes! You will, indeed!
(98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed.)

The word kudos is etymologically a singular form, a modern borrowing of Greek kudos, "glory, renown." In very recent times, however, kudos has been reanalyzed as a plural form and consequently a new singular kudo sometimes occurs. Certain features of kudos predispose it to this kind of treatment. In the first place, it is an unfamiliar word, drawn from the vocabulary of Homer by academic and learned persons. In their usage it did not occur as the subject of a sentence, where the verb could provide a clue to whether kudos was singular or plural. Secondly, kudos has no recorded plural in English. A person unfamiliar with Homeric Greek who saw the form kudos in an English publication would be likely to interpret it as the regular plural of a noun ending in o, like typos for typo and altos for alto. Once kudos was treated as a plural, the linguistic pressure to supply a singular would have been very strong. Although the form kudo has not achieved general acceptance and the construction "kudos are" is often considered incorrect, the linguistic process in the development of kudo/kudos as the singular and plural forms of an English noun are highly productive and have been going on in English and other languages since prehistoric times. The development of the singular pea from the earlier singular form pease is an example of the same kind of reanalysis. * Berkley Books, a division of the Berkley Publishing Company; New York, NY |
